4 companies of Interplex Industries earn International Quality Control Certification

Firms among first in stamping, plating and molding industry to meet new standards developed for automotive suppliers

NEW YORK, N.Y. - January 1, 2004 - Four companies owned by New York-headquartered Interplex Industries--two in the U.S., one in France and one in Mexico--have been notified that they have achieved compliance with ISO/TS16949:2002 standards, the international quality control designation established for suppliers to the auto industry, it was announced by the company, a leading global provider of metal stamping, plating and plastic molding components.

The four Interplex companies that have received official certification or been notified of their compliance are: Interplex Soprec, Dannemarie Sur Crete, France; Interplex Mexico, Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico; Interplex Sunbelt, Tamarac, Fla., all manufacturers of metal stamping and plastic molding products; and Interplex Metals, Warwick, R.I., a provider of metal plating, powder coating and skiving services.

The companies are among the first in their industry to achieve ISO/TS16949:2002 certification, reports Dennis Segalewitz, Interplex director of corporate quality. He said certification requires suppliers to the auto industry to undergo a rigorous audit of all internal quality control systems and to bring each into compliance with the international requirements.

ISO/TS16949:2002 was developed to improve product and process quality and increase efficiency by automotive suppliers. The driving force behind the new standard is the International Automotive Task Force (IAFT), whose members include Daimler/Chrysler, Ford, General Motors and the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG).

"In addition to ensuring the highest level of quality for our automotive customers, ISO/TS16949:2002 certification is independent confirmation of Interplex's commitment to unrivaled quality and efficiency for customers in every industry we serve," Segalewitz stated.

Founded in 1958, Interplex Industries (www.interplex.com) is one of the largest privately owned stamping, plating and molding companies in the world with customers in the automotive, computer, electronics, telecommunications and medical equipment industries. The company operates more than 20 full-service facilities in the U.S., Mexico, Scotland, France, Germany, India, and China. In addition to custom metal stamping, selective plating and insert and injection molded plastic parts, Interplex companies provide custom electronics assembly, etching, patented solder and flux bearing leads for hybrid circuits and chip carriers, connectors, test instruments, solar products and other leading-edge products. It also maintains a test laboratory for testing and qualifying electronic products.
