Interplex Industries to Add PVD Capability

College Point, NY – September 15, 2008. - Interplex Industries, a leading global provider of precision components and assemblies, announced today that it is adding Physical Vapor Deposition or PVD to its portfolio of decorative surface finishing services.

Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) is a technology where a material is evaporated and condensed to form a thin film coating over an object (substrate). PVD provides a robust, environmentally friendly decorative coating on a variety of materials including stainless steel, aluminum and plastic.

The application of PVD coatings to stainless steel components can create a wide range of different appearances. As a result of PVD coating’s hardness, more than ten times harder than stainless steel, a metal component’s surface becomes scratch resistant and keeps its new-like appearance for a very long period of time.

In addition, Interplex has established a development agreement with the leading Swedish PVD equipment supplier, Impact Coatings. As part of the agreement, Interplex and Impact Coatings will co-develop unique PVD processes to meet the challenging cosmetic requirements of the mobile device industry.

”The global footprint of Interplex’s precision metal stamping and finishing capabilities will be the perfect market channel for our technology” said Torsten Rosell, chairman of Impact Coatings. “Demand for cosmetic coatings is increasing rapidly and we are certain we can achieve a leading position in the industry through this alliance”.

“We are very excited to work with Impact Coatings,” said Brian Tracey, Interplex’s Group Vice President of Business Development. “Together, Interplex and Impact Coatings will offer customers state-of-the-art PVD solutions to help meet the industry’s growing demand for decorative metal products. The addition of PVD represents a key milestone for Interplex’s support to the mobile device industry.”

Currently, Interplex’s in-house decorative surface finishing services include anodizing, sand blasting, diamond cutting, laser etching and electroplating. Interplex is one of the few companies in the world to perform both the metal forming functions, such as stamping, die casting and chemical etching, and the corresponding decorative surface finishes in-house. Interplex will initially offer PVD from its manufacturing location in Kunszentmarton, Hungary and anticipates adding it to one of its manufacturing locations in Asia soon after.

Founded in 1958, Interplex Industries provides design and development services, precision metal stamping, die casting, precision machining, plating and finishing, insert and injection molding, metal etching, assembly and automation services around the world and is headquartered in College Point, NY. Interplex currently provides its services to the consumer, communications, electronics, medical and automotive markets. The company has facilities in the United States, Mexico, China, Singapore, India, Malaysia, Korea, Scotland, France, Germany and Hungary.
