Powder Coating
Interplex has selected powder coatings with the best overall characteristics for reel-to-reel coating of sensitive electronic components. These coatings provide both a low cure cycle to protect heat sensitive materials and high flexibility coating for post-forming operations.
The powder coating forms a non-porous, flexible film that has excellent dielectric and electrical resistance properties, combined with excellent resistance to abrasion, corrosion, and chemicals.
THE PROCESS
The Interplex process uses the basic principles of electrostatic powder coating combined with refined techniques to apply the coating to "selected" surfaces while protecting critical contact surfaces and dimensions.
Whether your application requires protection from electrical arcing, abrasion, chemical or environmental exposure, the selective pre-coating of your product can be utilized. An additional benefit is the added potential to reduce the time and labor of manual applications of dielectric films or encapsulating materials.
PRODUCT DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS
Pre-plated product can be safely processed.
Non-coated surfaces can be post-plated.
Finished product can be post-formed.
Withstands secondary assembly operations such as insert injection molding.
Note: An area of "noncritical" surface must be provided for the coating to "transition" from the coated surface to an adjacent, critical electrical contact and/or dimensional surface.
POWDER COATING TECHNICAL DATA
1 Coatings will withstand short exposure to 475°F (246°C). Excessive exposure time can cause discoloration of the coating.
The properties reported above are based on testing performed on epoxy-coated samples and are provided as a general guide for evaluating the potential use in electromechanical applications.
